Neck pain from sleeping is often caused by using the wrong pillow—one that’s too high, too low, or old and misshapen. Poor sleeping positions, like lying on your stomach or twisting your neck too much, can also lead to discomfort. In Singapore, where many people prioritize comfort for better sleep, here’s how to choose the right pillow to reduce neck pain.
1. Choose a Pillow That Supports Your Neck and Head
The pillow should have the right height and firmness to properly support your neck and head. A pillow with a slight curve to support your neck and shoulders is ideal. Adjustable pillows that let you customize the height can be a great option.
2. Pick a Pillow Made from Supportive Materials
The material matters too. Choose a pillow that doesn’t flatten easily and isn’t too soft, as these can lead to neck pain during sleep.
3. Select a Pillow Based on Your Sleeping Position
If you sleep on your back, choose a medium-height pillow with a gentle curve to support your head. If you sleep on your side, go for a pillow that’s slightly higher on the sides to fill the gap between your neck and shoulder.
4. Select a Breathable Pillow
A breathable pillow that dries quickly and resists moisture will prevent odors and germs from building up. It’s also a good idea to get a pillow with a removable, washable cover for easy cleaning.
